Mere Ishu acha heh! Is my new favorite hindi phrase from a praise song I learned here, and it means my Jesus is good! Over and over in these last ten days God has been revealing to me more of how good he is. He's cared for me and blessed me beyond belief-all things work together for good! Many things changed about this trip, and each change proved to be a blessing, down to meeting the group from Grace (including a friend from Heritage) this morning.
I'm in the indhira gandhi airport right now, reflecting on these past ten days. I am so encouraged in the Lord! I have met believers who have a solid faith and are sharing the gospel in areas that have never heard, that literally worship idols! It is challenging but invigorating, and we need to get behind our brothers and sisters in prayer.
I have also discovered a new and vibrant culture! Here are some quirky things I love about Indian culture...
1. The bobble head. Indians wiggle their heads from side to side to indicate yes and ok. It takes a minute at first to register what it means, but is important to know, especially when dealing with children!
2. The women's clothing. It is always brigh
t and cheerful, matches up in amazing ways, and is breathtakingly beautiful, bringing beauty to even the most desolate landscapes. It is also comfortable and practical (especially for squat toilets) as I have discovered while wearing it. Its going to be hard to shift back to western clothing. It was amazing how many compliments I got on my clothing (even from the security lady at the airport) and how it instantly raised my acceptance levek here.
3. The food. Again here Indians have retained their culture, and the food is so delicious and makes so much sense! Mmmmmmmmmmm. Don't even get me started on how great the tea is!!!!! Even McDonalds has bowed to the pressure and serves only chicken burgers and "shake shake fries" that have a spicy taste.
4.The culture of hospitality is amazing. Being a guest is quite an experience! Everyone smiles at us and rolls out the best for us as guests.
5. Everyone here not only speaks at least three languages, but usually can write in at least two totally different scripts.
Hmmmm... Maybe I've discovered a new passion. Ill keep praying to seek Jesus' will for me! Mere Ishu acha heh and He will show me in his timing...
