How do they do that?

I'm visiting America...for the first time in a year...and even after almost 20 years of going and coming home, there are still things that surprise me.  Here's this year's list...

1.  The snow stays so white!!  Where I live, the snow turns to black sludge after about three hours.  Here it's white, to the very edge of the road.  How do they do that?
2.  The floors are so clean!!  See above about the snow...
3.  The bathrooms smell so good!  Even in the malls and stores, when I go to the bathroom I'm shocked by the absence of bad odor and the presence of good odor.  How do they do that?
4.  The internet is so fast!!  And accessible!!
5.  Things are so unchanged!  There have been a few changes to the roads around my house, but in a year so incredibly little has changed.  Makes me feel like I haven't been gone very long at all (weird).
6.  The sidewalks are so clear and ice-free, but no one is walking on them!  Amazing the resources we use to clear our sidewalks even when they are so lightly used.
7.  The stores are so empty!  Where are all the people?  Except the Apple store, that place is a mess...even at 10 am on a workday morning.
8.  My house is so quiet!  No subway construction just outside.
9.  There is so much open space outside!!!
10.  People here are so amazing!  Again I'm amazed at all the acts of ordinary heroism my friends here in America are involved in: from foster care to aiding refugees to overwhelming generosity to just helping out whenever possible, so many acts of love and kindness from such amazing people.  I am so blessed to know you all!
