I'm in Florence now, and love it! Here are the reasons Florence is so much better than Rome:
1. The city soccer team color is purple, so there is purple everywhere.
2. Their specialty is beef, as in steak, whereas in Rome it was oxtail.
3. Almost everything is fifty cents to a euro cheaper than Rome.
4. I've seen lots of people riding bicycles around without fear of death.
5. I haven't yet had one "death by motorino" incident.
6. The big tourist buildings are pretty on the outside too. In Rome they're just big blobs of cement.
7. The men are way more attractive here.
8.The streets actually make a grid, and at intersections your choices are: left, right, or straight, whereas in Rome you always had to pick between six different converging streets.
9. If you ever get lost, you look up, find the duomo, and know where you are.
10. My room and house are amazingly beautiful.
So for my room: I was the first one of the four of us girls to arrive, and had to choose between a room with a terrace and a room with a view. I chose the view. I can overlook the city of Florence from all four sides of my room and see the dome out one of my windows. The windows have green shutters that I open every morning to see breathtaking mountains, the domes, and quaint tile roofs. It is magnificent. My room itself has white and peach spongepainted walls (beautiful!) and is spotlessly clean. The sheets match I have a globe. There is no carwash to wake me up at 6am, and the shutters keep out enough light to let me sleep.
This is definitely going to be a more comfortable month than last month. Perhaps a good respite before my other travels.
