I forget that while in China life is unpredictable, that life in Thailand is even more so.
Like my train ride I just took from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. I expected it to arrive at 6:50AM, making it roughly fourteen hours (pretty good when it doubled as a hotel room). It arrived at 9:50 AM instead. That extra delay of three hours wasn't expected, especially as Chinese trains don't run that late. I kept seeing the stations as we pulled in, thinking, we're only to this one? It was a great view of the middle of Thailand, however.
Well, I still had some time before I could check in to my hotel. So I decided to bop over to an evang. ch. I found on the web that started at 11:15. By the time I got changed into a dress and checked my luggage into left luggage, I didn't have quite enough time to figure it out on the subway. So out I went to bargain with the tuk tuk drivers outside.
They're always vultures, I know that. I finally found one willing to laugh with me as we bartered (always helps me relieve tension rather than the angry scowls), and worked him down to just above my price, doing walk-aways, reasonings, the whole shebang. I didn't realize he would hit on me the whole ride there, no let up. It was a half hour of deflecting his desire to take me around, take me out to eat, take me home tonight, etc. It was all in good spirits, and after awhile I told him the real reason I can't go home with him: I've already found my One True Love and anyone else must also love Him. I got to say His name, to talk about Him. It was great.
Then the fellowship was amazing! They sang a lot of the same uplift songs we sing at College Park, and four people were immersed: three Chinese and a Thai girl. A great send-off for me in a way as I head back to a new semester.
So in the unexpected hookup proposals and the unexpected testimonies from around the world, I am glad to have Him close and at work in life!!
