Temples

My Valentine's Day post is a day late this year, but let me tell you about a romantic moment I had.  It's a story from last year, but it's been on my mind a lot this year.

I'm in Thailand, as always in February for our conference, and had decided to take the train from Chiang Mai down to Bangkok.  I splurged for a nice compartment, so basically had a rolling hotel room all to myself for the 12 hour ride.  However, it's not China, so the train was about 5 hours late, so by the time I awoke I still had many hours to enjoy the Thai scenery rolling by.

In that part of Thailand, all you really see rolling by are tiny houses and big golden temples.  The temples really bothered me--so much care and money and devotion lavished on something that does not bring everlasting fulfillment.  So I talked with the One who always goes with me, and asked Him to redeem the sight of all these magnificent yet vain temples rolling by.  He whispered a word to me: do you see how beautiful all those temples are? How sparkling, how eye catching, how unique?  That's how I see you.

I am His temple, filled by Him.  He uses me to reflect his glory, and I am unique and beautiful because He sees me that way.  Right now I'm still under construction, but I am being covered with gold and precious stones as I follow in His steps.

So this year as I'm in Thailand, walking past so many temples, I hear His sweet voice again whispering to me; You are My temple.

May you hear His love for you whispered in unique ways as well.
