Here are 10 things I'm still having trouble adjusting to as I'm visiting America after two years in China.
1. Ice in the drinks.
2. How annoying commercials here are. In China they mystify me, here they're just repetitive and annoying.
3. I can't make little comments about the people around me to my friends: the people around me will understand what I say!
4. It's so easy to get around if you have a car: but so impossible if you don't (even in the suburbs of New York City, where people stare at you if you walk along the sidewalk to go find dinner).
5. I usually know what will happen next here.
6. The waitress butts into your conversation to ask if everything is OK and give you more water SO MANY TIMES here!!
7. Many people can't understand my little Chinese phrases and Chinglish that have worked themselves into my speech.
8. Leaving my shoes on while inside just feels morally wrong now.
9. The trees are so tall and leafy!
10. I can eat cheese, butter, ice cream, and sour cream daily but I haven't had eggplant in weeks.
